About the KBC

Message from Chairperson of the KBC

A chairde, tá an-athás orm fáilte a chur romhaibh go dtí an Cumann Caoimhín de Barra, an cumann is mó agus is laidre í Fhianna Fáil.

You are taking an interest in Fianna Fáil at an important time where the organisation is facing its future and realises the importance of its young membership. This realisation has been matched by a renewed interest in Ógra and in the college and university cumainn. The party is now more ready than ever before to listen to our voice and take on board our ideas, and this is a fact that we have been making use of over the course of this academic year.

Over the past forty or so years, the Kevin Barry Cumann has built up quite a reputation for itself within Fianna Fáil and approximately thirty percent of the current parliamentary party were at one time or another members of the Kevin Barry Cumann in UCD. The Cumann has provided a leading influence in guiding Fianna Fáil policy in a range of areas and with over five-hundred and seventy members, is proud to be the biggest branch of any political party in Ireland.

Of course there is a lot more to the Kevin Barry Cumann in UCD than bending the ears of parliamentary party members. The KBC has the reputation of being an active and vibrant society within UCD as well as being an active and vibrant cumann in Fianna Fáil. Beyond politics altogether, the KBC and its members are renowned for holding some of UCD’s legendary drinks receptions, the first of which is always our  annual hot whiskey night on the Thursday of Freshers’ Week. Others this year include the Christmas party, the KBC table quiz, the Brussels/Amsterdam International Trip, National Youth Conference, Ard Fheis and several Dáil Bar visits as well as drinks receptions following Cumann meetings. The Cumann has had an action packed year and whether you are interested in politics or not, it is worth being a member of the Kevin Barry Cumann if only for the sessions, craic and above all the friends you make throughout the year.

We look forward to hearing any comments you have on our web-site, or on the Cumann and if you are coming to UCD in September, make sure the Kevin Barry Cumann is the first society that you join!

Is mise le meas,

Ciarán Murphy
